OM Angola’s San bushmen outreach

Each year as part of the Missions and Discipleship course, Cross Cultural studies, our students travel to the unreached Bushmen tribes.

Ericleidy Afonso is the coordinator of this project:

One of our main focusses is to get the Bible translated into one of their main dialects. This is quite a process, and presently we are recording the Bible in a local dialect that some of them understand. With their help, we can then record it in their primary dialect.

In our time with them, we try to help their physical needs like clothing, food, making corrals for their cattle etc. The students get to know more of their culture, and they share basic concepts of the gospel with the bushmen group.

In 2021, two of the Bushmen children, Domingos (then age 12) and Kuvanja (then age 11), came to stay with us at the mission base and enrolled into our academic school. They are taught by one of our monitors, Matchai, who is helping them to accomplish this great task by means of the local dialect, Luchachi, to get them to learn the material in Portuguese and in their own dialect. Our hearts’ desire is to help them to educate their own people, and with their help to translate the Bible into their dialect.

We are overwhelmed by the progress of our two Bushmen students. They have already completed Grade 2 and in September 2023, they will start Grade 3. They are both able to read in Portuguese.
